A Day Out At Fortnum & Mason

Piccadilly Perfection

Today I visited Fortnum & Mason, a wonderful luxury department store located in central London.

It started out as a grocery store that grew significantly...
Fortnum and Mason became known worldwide for the high quality of its products : an iconic symbol of British culture? It has been under Royal Warrant and is the official supplier to many Royal Courts over the last 150 years. Currently it is the official supplier to Her Majesty Elizabeth II for groceries (including confectionery) and to the Prince of Wales for tea.

In November 2013, a new store will open at St Pancras International Station, the first new store in the UK.
Fortnum & Mason opens its first store outside the UK in Dubai on 21 March 2014.

From the outside, I was already expecting it to be pretty but not quite as luxurious as it turned out to be. Indeed, outside, there are decorated showcases where different words are written.
Inside, there are two types of staircases. You will find very authentic stairs with decoration on each landing and on the other side, stairs covered with a red carpet, a golden and red banister as well.
I was impressed by all the colours in this building, on every floor.

It even smells luxurious, whether it was the different fragrances of perfume, the smells of spices, or even the smell of the restaurant.
There were a lot of visitors, people taking pictures, people buying, people eating, people working...
Each floor is different but just as luxurious. Indeed, on the ground floor you will find all the sweets such as tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolate pastry...

There is even a beautiful restaurant.

On the first floor you will see everything associated with tea...

On the second floor you will find jewellery, perfumes, candles and even body products.

On the third floor there are men's accessories, perfumes, a barbershop.
This floor is rather dedicated to men.

Finally on the top floor is "The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon".

It’s all fantastic.

To tell you the truth, I loved that place, even if I didn't buy anything there but I'll probably go back there to buy chocolate. Just go and take it all even if you are not buying – it is a wonderful spectacle.
Just to have a good time, to learn more about the UK, to have a cup of tea or buy some of the products the Queen herself buys?
